Shillong / Agartala: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday assured the government that the government is working to ensure peace in Tripura, where the Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a historic mandate on the weekend. Singh said that he had spoken to the state governor and the DGP and asked him to ensure peace till he was taken to the new government.

The Home Minister's remarks came in the wake of reports of sporadic violence in the North-Eastern states, in which last Left Front more than two decades ago witnessed the collapse of the government. The BJP demolished the leftist fort in Tripura, its ally, with a two-thirds majority winning the IPFT, was declared the result on Saturday.

Since the announcement of the results of the election on Saturday, sporadic violence and conflicts have been reported among the rival political groups in different parts of the state. In the worst case, with the help of a bulldozer in the city of Belonia in southern Tripura, an idol of Lemon icon Lenin was demolished today. The reports said that the BJP workers were allegedly involved in the incident.

CPI leader D Raja said such incidents are not acceptable in the democracy. "I condemn this violence, it is not acceptable in the democracy. We are a multi-party democracy, some parties win and some lose, it does not mean that they can resort to vandalism and violence like this Lenin statue will be destroyed. Law needs to take its own path. "

"Violence in Tripura indicates RSS and BJP ideology, besides violence, they have no political future, people of Tripura will react to violence," CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury said in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, during the telephone call, Governor Raj Gupta Roy and DGP Shukla told the Union Home Minister about the current state of Tripura and took steps to control violence.
